AEC, a multi-million Pound contract as Lead Designer for the airport’s demolition of Terminal 1 (T1), and creating a completely new baggage-handling infrastructure for the Future Terminal 2 (T2) programme. Heathrow has forecast significant growth in passengers using the airport, and the new baggage system will be designed to handle this increase in passenger numbers.
The new, eight-year contract is for AECOM to deliver design and project management services.
Terminal 2 opened in June 2014, following a £2.3 Billion, four-year building programme that saw the original terminal, opened in 1955, demolished. Following the opening of the new T2, Terminal 1 was closed to passengers in 2015, though it’s baggage handling system has been in use by the new T2.
